Scripture Power Kids Week Two

WEEK TWO: DAY ONE

1 Nephi 3
Reading: Read verses 9-27


Discuss: What happened when they tried to get the plates? Why wasnt it easy for them? How did Lamen and Lemuel respond to failure? How did Nephi? What can you do when you feel like giving up?

Activity: Make an obstacle course with a fun prize at the end. Help them remember not to give up. Relate the obstacles to those Nephi faced.

Closing: Testify thr lord can help us not give up and to keep trying despite obstacles.

Invite: To think of something tough in your life and pray for strength and ideas on how to overcome.


WEEK TWO: DAY TWO

1 Nephi 3
Reading: Read the rest of the chapter

Discuss: Why were Lamen and Lemuel angry? What did they do with their anger? What makes you angry? how can we keep our emotions from contolling us? What can we do when we are angry?

Activity: Give each child two pieces of paper. On one paper have them write or draw things that make them angry. On the other paper, have them write or draw things they can do when they are angry that are okay to do. Share with each other and discuss.lk about w

Closing: Testify that our emotions are good but God can help us not be controlled by them.

Invite: To try one of the things you drew/wrote next time you're angry.


WEEK TWO: DAY THREE

1 Nephi 4
Reading: 1-3

Discuss: How did Nephi show his faith? From these verses, what do you think stregnthened his faith?

Activity: Talk about your favorite scripture stories. Write a title if the story down and tape it on a block. Build a tower with the blocks. try to build one sturdy enough to not be knocked down. Talk about how scripture stories can be a strong foundation for your faith.

Closing: Testify that as we read the scriptures daily our faith will be strengthened

Invite: To keep reading daily!


WEEK TWO: DAY FOUR

1 Nephi 4
Reading: Verses 4-20

Discuss: How do you think it feels to be led by the spirit? Why did God command Nephi to kill Laban? What do we learn from the story of God commanding Nephi to kill Laban? Why were the plates so important? How can you apply this story to your life?

Activity: Blindfold each child and have them practice listening to you and your instructions. Lead them with your voice only. Have a prize or a snack for them that you lead them to. Compare it to following the spirit and obeying even when we don't see the big picture.

Closing: Testify of the importants of really heeding the spirit in your life and trusting God.

Invite: Invite them to think of a way they can better try to hear the voice of the spirit.


WEEK TWO: DAY FIVE

1 Nephi 4
Reading: Verses 21 to the end of the chapter

Discuss: What convinced Zoram to stay? What is an oath?

Activity: Talk about an oath being similar to a promise. Play a game to practice keeping promises. Have them pick out slips of papers where you have writen a simple task for them to do right then. Before they pick it, have them promise to do it, and you promise something in return (a treat, snack, trip to the park). Once they pick a paper and do the task, ask them how they felt keeping their promise. Then keep your promise and take them to the park!

Closing: Testify the importance of learning to keep promises big or small, because when we get baptised and go to the temple we will make very special promises to God. It is good practice to start keeping promises now.

Invite: Invite them to think of one thing they want to promise to do better in and do it!


WEEK TWO: DAY SIX

1 Nephi 5
Reading:Verses 1-9

Discuss: What helped strengthen Sariah's faith? What can we do when we have doubts? What did they do when all the brothers came home with the plates? How did they show gratitude? How can we?

Activity: Have children draw a picture or make a list of things they are grateful for. Have them hang it up some where to look at when they doubt, feel sad, or just want to remember to be grateful.

Closing: Testify that looking for the blessings in life and bring grateful will bring more happiness.

Invite: Invite them to look at their pictures/list whenever they are feeling down throughout the week.


WEEK TWO: DAY SEVEN

1 Nephi 5
Reading: Verses 10-22

Disucss: What was on the brass plates? How do you think these things helped Lehi feel the spirit? How can the scriptures help you feel the spirit? Why were the brass plates "of great worth" to Lehi and his people?

Activity: One of the things Lehi discovered was geneology. Talk to you kids about what that is. Make a family tree for them and have them help you fill it out with pictures and/or names.

Closing: Testify that the scirptures stories and knowing about our own past can help strengthen our faith.

Invite: Invite them to continue to read the scriptures daily!
